As a graphic designer, I am privileged to tell stories through visual mediums. One such story that I am particularly proud of bringing to life is that of the Hernandez family, whose journey of courage and perseverance was commemorated in a custom design for IRCOM (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba) in 2011.
Designing Narratives of Success
This design was crafted to celebrate the Hernandez family’s successful resettlement in Canada and their remarkable achievements since arriving. The layout resembles an open book, symbolizing the new chapter they began in Canada, with pages filled with their heartfelt narratives and cherished photographs that frame their memories.
A Tribute to Courage and Community
The design captures the essence of IRCOM’s mission to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for families like the Hernandez’s. IRCOM’s dedication to offering long-term, affordable, and safe housing, along with comprehensive support services for both parents and children, is reflected in the warmth and care that went into this design.
Visual Storytelling with Purpose
Through carefully selected fonts that mirror the family’s elegance and strength, to the intricate details and textures that evoke the comfort of a new home, every element was chosen to honor their story. The warm color palette and the incorporation of cultural motifs pay homage to the family’s heritage and their journey of integration into the Canadian mosaic.
Conclusion
It’s an honor to use my design skills to recognize the incredible strides made by families like the Hernandez’s. This project for IRCOM was more than just a piece of visual art; it was a testament to human resilience and the power of community support. I look forward to continuing to tell such inspiring stories through my work.
