Background: Aerotech Herman Nelson International Inc., a company specializing in aviation ground support equipment, faced a significant challenge in their digital and marketing strategy. Their initial attempt to revamp the company website encountered hurdles due to staffing and coordination issues. An in-house developer had initiated the project but left before its completion, leaving the task in the hands of an external web development firm. However, this firm struggled due to the absence of clear guidance and direction, stalling the progress of the website overhaul.

Objective: The primary goal was to complete the development of Aerotech’s website, ensuring it was not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also optimized for search engine visibility. Additionally, Aerotech aimed to establish a robust online presence through effective social media marketing. Their marketing needs extended beyond the digital realm, requiring custom graphic design work for various promotional materials.

Scope of Work:

  1. Website Completion and Optimization:

    • Resuming the website development process interrupted by the departure of the in-house developer.
    • Collaborating closely with the external development team to provide the needed direction and oversight.
    • Ensuring the website is user-friendly, visually appealing, and reflective of Aerotech’s brand identity.
    • Implementing search engine optimization (SEO) strategies to enhance online visibility and ranking.
  2. Social Media Marketing:

    • Developing and executing a comprehensive social media strategy to boost Aerotech’s online presence.
    • Creating engaging content and campaigns tailored to different social media platforms to reach a broader audience.
    • Monitoring social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of the strategies and make necessary adjustments.
  3. Graphic Design for Marketing Materials:

    • Designing a range of custom graphics for various promotional tools, including brochures, flyers, tradeshow materials, and decals.
    • Ensuring consistency in design across all materials to maintain brand identity and message coherence.
    • Collaborating with marketing teams to align the designs with overall marketing objectives and campaigns.

When faced with the challenges at Aerotech, I adopted a methodical approach, breaking down each issue and creating a structured workflow for every project.

  1. Revitalizing the Website:

    • The website overhaul was the top priority. I started by meticulously reviewing all the materials left by my predecessor.
    • Realizing the importance of collaboration, I promptly scheduled a meeting with the third-party web development company to gain a comprehensive understanding of their progress and challenges.
    • By combining our efforts, we successfully completed the website, ensuring it was not only functional but also aligned with Aerotech’s brand and objectives.
  2. Redefining Google AdWords Strategy:

    • My attention then turned to Aerotech’s Google AdWords account. I identified a critical issue: excessive spending on untargeted campaigns and mismatched keywords.
    • To tackle this, I conducted:
      • An in-depth keyword analysis using Google’s Keyword Tool.
      • Extensive online research to understand how competitors structured their ads and content.
    • This led to the creation of more targeted ad campaigns, which effectively enhanced leads and boosted sales of their heater inventory.
  3. Designing Custom Graphics:

    • With the website operational and the AdWords strategy refined, I focused on designing custom graphics. This included:
      • Brochures and tradeshow materials that showcased Aerotech’s products in a compelling manner.
      • Detailed heater operation manuals that were both informative and visually engaging.
    • These custom-designed materials have been instrumental in supporting Aerotech’s sales team, providing them with effective tools for marketing and client engagement.

In summary, my approach was not just about solving problems but about adding value to each aspect of Aerotech’s digital presence and marketing strategy. Where Aerotech Herman Nelson Stands Today:

Over time, the need arose to replace the initial website developed with the help of a third-party team. This decision was driven by several emerging issues such as navigation difficulties, slow site speed, poor mobile functionality, and conflicting design concepts from my predecessor. To address these challenges, I built a new website from scratch, which has been successfully operational in its latest version to this day.
